The second All-Russian geographical dictation will take place on Sunday 20 November 2016.

The dictation will be held in all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, at specially prepared regional venues in universities, schools, libraries, research institutes, children's centers, etc.

As in 2015, the text of the dictation was compiled in three versions for the regions of the Far East, Siberia and Central Russia.
Dictation questions will be devoted, first of all, to the geography of Russia.

Recall that the first All-Russian geographical dictation was held on November 1, 2015 in order to assess the level of geographical literacy of the population. It was organized by the Russian Geographical Society.

In terms of the number of participants in the dictation, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (7026 people), Moscow (3343 people), Tverskaya (1432 people) and Voronezh (1427 people) regions were in the lead.
You can take part in the dictation everyone, regardless of age, education and field of activity. To write an offline dictation, they came to regional sites 44 365 people. Of them 43 567 Submit your work for review. More 27 564 people passed the test online on the website of the Russian Geographical Society.
Thus, the total number of participants in the dictation is about 72,000 people.
Among them are people with a wide variety of education - from general primary to postgraduate with a degree.
The largest group of participants was the holders of higher education, the smallest - persons with primary general education. Thus, the average level of education of the dictation participants turned out to be higher than the average for Russia.

The dictation included 25 test items, which were divided into three blocks. The first consisted of assignments for knowledge of geographical concepts and terms; the second was aimed at testing knowledge about the location of geographical objects on the map; the third - on knowledge of geographical descriptions.

One of the main principles of the action was anonymity. On the forms of tasks and answers it was possible not to indicate your name. Participants were asked to write only their age, occupation, attitude to geography (for example, student or teacher of a specialized university), and some other information. This information is necessary in order to assess and analyze the level of geographical knowledge of the inhabitants of our country.

Among the participants of the dictation, there are three main categories: pupils, students and working citizens- they are about 30% . The rest of the population was less than 10%. Most of the participants in the dictation are young people.
It is interesting that students in grades 5-9 answered the questions in a completely different way than students in grades 10-11, while the answers of high school students differed little from the answers of adults.
With regard to gender indicators of statistics, on average, the response score of men is two points higher than that of women.

The highest score that could be obtained for a dictation was 100 points, the lowest - 0. Unfortunately, 100-point results were not recorded in all regions, and the total number of works that deserved the highest score does not exceed 1%.

In general, the results of the first geographical dictation show that Russians have a mediocre knowledge of the geography of their country, while schoolchildren and students demonstrated a level of geographical knowledge below the national average.
average rating for dictation in Russia is only 55 points, in school terminology, is a triple.
Even more sad that 48% of participants of the action wrote a dictation below the average level, that is, we got a three with a minus or a two.

The results of the dictation were taken into account by the Russian Geographical Society when preparing a new Concept for the Development of Geographical Education, which is being developed by the Russian Geographical Society together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

According to the RGS website

To write a dictation will be distributed forms. During 45 minutes participants will have to answer 30 questions dedicated primarily to the geography of Russia. While writing a dictation it is forbidden to use mobile electronics(phones, smartphones, tablets, etc.).

One of the main principles of the All-Russian campaign is anonymity. Each participant will receive unique identification number, by which he will later be able to find out his personal result on the official website of the Russian Geographical Society

Nearly 1,650 sites were operating all over the country at the same time. At the same time, 32 sites operated in the neighboring Vladimir region, while there were two in the Ryazan region. The Russian State University named after Yesenin, as the main and only center of geographical science and education in the region, according to the number of applications, was preparing to accept up to a thousand people, turning the event into a real celebration of science, mobilizing a large staff of staff and student volunteers to organize the action. It was all the more interesting to learn the preliminary results of the analysis of the work. The bulk of the participants in the Russian State University were the fair sex - 61%, men were one and a half times less - 39%. The geography of the participants included the cities of Ryazan, Sasovo and Skopin, as well as the Ryazan, Rybnovsky, Zakharovsky, Mikhailovsky, Skopinsky, Spassky, Alexander Nevsky, Shilovsky, Shatsky, Starozhilovsky, Chuchkovsky and Saraevsky regions.

School students accounted for 74.2% (545 people), students - 7.8%, employed - 14.1%, pensioners - 2.9%. Students of the Faculty of Natural Geography of the Russian State University were busy organizing the event, and already participated in the online version of the Dictation, which is why the indicated figures were not included. The age profile revealed the following picture: up to 10 years old - two participants, 10-18 years old - 81%, 19-25 years old - 3%, 26-35 years old - 2%, 36-53 years old - 8.5%, 54-65 years old - 3%, over 65 years old - 1.5%.

Head of the Department of Physical Geography of the Russian State University Aleksey Vodorezov commented on the answers of Ryazan residents to some questions of the dictation.

The very first question of the dictation required giving a name to a point on the map, in relation to which the entire territory of Russia lies in the south. The answers Cape Chelyuskin, Taimyr, Franz Josef Land are not correct, as well as "north". The only correct answer - the North Pole - was given by 51% of Ryazan residents. The meaning of the question is that being at the North Pole, the direction in any direction is the direction to the south, the concepts of north, west and east disappear altogether.

When asked about the river on which Sergey Yesenin and Ilya Muromets were born, the correct answer - Oka - instead of the naturally expected 100% was given by only 95% of the participants: others indicated the Yenisei, Ob and Volga rivers in their answers.

A high percentage of correct answers - 81% - was given to the question about monsoons - the winds of the Far East that change direction twice a year.

More than 74% of Ryazan residents correctly indicated the natural zone where cloudberries and dwarf birches grow, reindeer and lemmings live - the tundra zone (tundra and forest tundra). Some, however, entered the taiga and the steppe, and also confused the natural zone with the geographical zone, indicated the Arctic and Subarctic.

Undisguised interest in all thirteen involved classrooms of the university aroused the question of the people of Dagestan numbering 470 thousand people, whose fame was brought by the world-famous dance. The answer sheets included horsemen, "mountain people", Cossacks and Tuvans. Knowledgeable and quick-witted - 45% of the participants - figured out that by analogy with the gypsy and the polka, we are talking about the famous Lezginka - the folk dance of the Lezgins.

The shallowest sea off the coast of Russia with a maximum depth of 15 meters - Azov, was reflected in the answers of 70% of the participants. The mysterious city of the Golden Ring, known since the 11th century, with an armed bear on the coat of arms is Yaroslavl, which was correctly reported by 52% of Ryazan residents. When choosing the most salty reservoir from the group of lakes Elton, Ilmen, the Caspian and Azov seas, only 41% correctly pointed to the first - a natural storehouse of table salt in the Volgograd region, an ancient object of salt production - Lake Elton.

Great difficulties were caused by the analysis of a satellite image, on which it was proposed to recognize the river and choose a name from four proposed ones. It required logic and observation. The picture looked like a mosaic of multi-colored rectangles - this is exactly what arable land looks like from a height, which immediately swept aside the options for the Ob and Pechora. The picture shows the mouth of the Don River at its confluence with the Sea of Azov. Only 40% of participants answered this way.

Another question contained a picture: on a 1981 postage stamp with the inscription "300 years since the birth" there was a portrait of an adult man in a headdress, the question indicated that this was a navigator who glorified Russia in swimming on the boat "Saint Gabriel". The answers of Columbus, Miklukho-Maclay and Barentsev were deliberately wrong. But 56% answered correctly, remembering Vitus Bering.

After testing the knowledge of depths, heights, sizes and concepts, the participants approached the final group of questions, where excerpts from the prose and poems of Russian classics contained a hint of a geographical object - a city or a river. The city on the Northern Dvina turned out to be Arkhangelsk (47% of correct answers), the image of the Terek River in Lermontov's lines turned out to be more difficult (36%). Well, the most difficult thing in the whole dictation turned out to be the image of a southern city, where the winter bora wind freezes ships into ice and knocks sailors off their feet. Only 30% of participants in the dictation gave the correct answer to Novorossiysk.

An analysis of the results of the dictation will give an understanding of the gaps in the knowledge of Russians about nature, resources, population and economic imbalances in the world's largest country, which will make it possible to make adjustments to educational programs, to think over a strategy for the development of school geographical education to form the personality of young Russians, patriots of their fatherland, - summed up Alexey Vodorezov.
